There are several things that you can do to ensure your safety while driving. Here are nine tips that will help you arrive safely at your destination.
First and foremost, wear your seatbelt! Lives are saved and if you are in an accident there are fewer injuries when you wear your seatbelt.
Second, do not speed. It is tempting to drive faster than the speed limit. But the speed limit is there for a purpose – to keep you and others safe while driving. Stay within the speed limit.
Pay attention. Don’t let yourself get sidetrack by the scenery, daydreaming, talking with passengers, or chatting on your cell phone.
Drive with your lights on. This makes your car more visible to other vehicles on the road.
When a traffic light turns orange, don’t zoom through the intersection. Start stopping so that by the time the light turns red, you have come to a complete stopped.
Don’t tailgate. Keep at least 4-5 car lengths behind the car in front of you. This will give you room to stop in case the car in front of you suddenly puts on their brakes.
If it is raining, reduce your speed. This will help you keep in control in case your car hydroplanes.
If you get sleepy, pull over and get out and stretch your legs and get some fresh air. If you are really sleepy, take a nap.
Signal when changing lanes. This lets other drivers know that you are changing your position on the road.
