So many accidents are caused by reckless driving. Reckless driving endangers yourself and everyone else on the road. Reckless driving can also lead to senseless deaths. How can you best avoid reckless driving?
1. Drive with awareness. It’s easy to drive in an automated way, especially if you have been driving for a particularly long time. So, bring yourself into the now and drive with total and complete mindfulness. You’re not driving with awareness for the sake of awareness. By being mindful, you’ll know exactly how to handle those split second decisions that many people falter in.
2. Drive undistracted. There are so many technological advancements in the modern age. It’s easy to believe that we can multitask and do just about everything. Can you drive and text? Yes. Can you drive and talk on the phone? Yes. Are you driving safely? Not particularly. These distractions take away your attention from the road which leads to accidents. So, save the cell phones for later when you’ve parked. It’s the safe habit to get into.
3. Protect yourself. It’s always surprising to discover how many people do not wear a seatbelt. These people are basically risking their entire lives because of avoiding one simple action. A seatbelt is one of the best forms of protection against death in a car. Slip on your seatbelt before you get into your car and you’ll develop a life saving habit.
4. Communicate with other drivers. The signal was invented to communicate clearly with other drivers. So, how do you expect drivers to know what you’re doing if you’re not signaling on the road? Signaling is often forgotten by experienced drivers and this is definitely a mistake. So many different accidents can occur by not using one’s signal. So, learn to communicate with drivers and get into the habit of using your signal.
